ANNA HIEMSTRA, violin

Originally from the Netherlands, Anna Hiemstra was admitted at age 12 to the prestigious Young Talent division of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where she graduated with honors. From an early age, she was invited to perform recitals and chamber music in concert halls in the Netherlands, France, the U.K., the Czech Republic and the United States, to great critical acclaim. After developing an interest in historical performance, Anna became prize-winner in a Dutch national Bach Concerto Competition and performed extensively in masterclasses with historical performance specialists like Vera Beths, Lucy van Dael, Robert Mealy and Cynthia Roberts.

Anna's orchestral playing has brought her to venues like the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and New York's Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall and Symphony Space. The conductors she has worked with include JoAnn Faletta, Paul Nadler, Nicholas McGegan and Edwin Outwater. In chamber music, Anna has been coached by musicians such as Diane Walsh, David Krakauer, members of the Orion String Quartet and the Colorado String Quartet.

In 2006, Anna relocated to New York, where she studied with Daniel Phillips and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance from Mannes College of Music. She is currently a highly sought-after violinist and violist in the New York freelancing scene, performing regularly with groups like Ensemble 212, Mimesis Ensemble and Uncommon Temperament.
